Wonderful Day

Library books are due back at school tomorrow.

In math we named the coins and their values and then we compared the lengths of objects by using the words - shorter than/longer than. If you have time tonight please ask your child to get 2 items and then compare their lengths by saying the _____ is shorter/longer than the _______.

In language we worked with the word wall words and wrote sentences using the words. If you have time tonight please ask your child to read these words to you:  how, three, talk, who, that.

Great Day

There are no new word wall words. We have finished introducing all of the grade 1 word wall words. From now until the end of the year we will be working with the words to learn to read them and spell them.

In math we continue to work on learning the names of the coins, making money amounts to 20 cents and measuring using non-standard items. If you have time tonight please ask your child to choose 4 to 5 items and then order them from longest to shortest or shortest to longest.

In language today we worked on adding endings (s, ed, ing) to word wall words and then practiced making rhyming words with the word wall words. The students also worked with a partner to write instructions on how to give a dog a bath (procedural writing). If you have time tonight please ask your child to read these 5 words to you:  come, here, house, they, there.

Great Day

A note came home today. We are going on a field trip on May 1st to see a play at Bronson Center. Please fill out the forms and send them back to school.

Tomorrow we are wearing white for Earth week.

In math we continue to work on money and adding and subtracting. Today the students completed an independent addition and subtraction activity. If you have time please ask your child to name all of the coins and tell you what each coin is worth.

In language today we chanted out this week's word wall words and then we began working on procedural writing (we when write instructions on how to make or do something). If you have time tonight please ask your child to read these words to you - come, have, because, from, how.

In science today we talked about how glass is made (with sand, lime, and soda). If your child where glass comes from and what we have to do to the sand, lime and soda to make glass (heat it at a very high temperature).

Great Day

Library books came home today. They are due back at school next Thursday.

In math the students worked independently to complete a couple of addition and subtraction inquiry problems. If you have time tonight please ask your child to tell you 3 different ways to make 20 cents.

In language today we chanted out this week's word wall words and then continued working on their descriptive paragraphs about robins. If you have time please ask your child to read the following words to you:  where, when, was, went, want.

Great Day

Tomorrow is Jersey Day. Library books are due back at school tomorrow.

In math we continue to work on learning the names of the coins and how much each coin is worth and then we worked in small groups to complete a math inquiry question. If you have time tonight please ask your child to solve this question and have them tell you how they would solve it.

Mary found 8 Easter eggs on Monday and 8 Easter eggs on Tuesday. How many Easter eggs does Mary have now?

Wonderful Day

In math today the students worked on naming and telling the value of each coin and then completed an independent subtraction activity. If you have time tonight please ask your child to solve this word problem:

Tom has 6 markers. Mary have 6 markers. How many markers do they have all together?

In language today we chanted out this week's word wall words and then began a descriptive paragraph about robins. If you have time tonight please ask your child to read this week's word wall words to you and then to tell you a sentence using the word Tuesday.

In science we talked about plastic. If you have time tonight please ask your child what plastic comes from (oil) and where is oil found (in the ground). Have your child look for 5 things that are made of plastic in your house.

Great Day

A reminder to give your child cutlery if they need to use a spoon or fork for their lunch or snacks.
Our class has no more plastic forks or spoons. It would be much appreciated if you could donate some plastic spoons for our class supply. Thanks in advance for your generous donations.
